The Westport Project

What does it actually take to film a home being built — from blueprint to finished house — while also capturing two people who've known each other for years, working together on something new?
That was my job on The Westport Project, the web series following Eva Amurri and Chris O'Dell (The O'Dell Group ) as they build a smart home on Compo Beach in Westport, CT.
The role was full circle: plan the episode with Eva, film the build and the conversations, then go home and edit, color, and upload it myself.
The hardest part wasn't the schedule — it was the environment. I'm used to controlled lighting and audio. This was rain, snow, beach glare, dark construction sites, all in the same day. The Sony FX6 and Alpha 1 made it possible to move between extremes without missing a beat.
Coming into this project, Eva and Chris already had a real friendship with each other. I was the new one — stepping into a dynamic I hadn't been part of before. And from day one, they welcomed me in like I'd always been there.
One year in: the house is finished, the response has been amazing, and I got to learn as much about smart homes and ICF construction thanks to Nudura Insulated Concrete Forms as I did about documentary storytelling.
